Mare & Furrow grew from The Plough Inn through years of welcoming guests who wanted to stay within the experience, rather than step out of it at the end of the evening.
Family-run by Richard and Marianne, the focus has always been the same: warm hospitality, thoughtful food, and creating a place where people feel genuinely looked after.
At its heart is a private wing of The Plough Inn, a 15th-century, Grade II listed Wealden hall house, carefully maintained and full of character. Built for gathering, shelter, and rest, the inn’s original purpose carries through into Mare & Furrow today. Fireside snugs, quiet corners, and shared spaces create an atmosphere that feels relaxed and lived-in rather than formal or staged.
The accommodation itself is separate, offering calm, comfortable suites designed for rest and privacy, while the warmth and rhythm of the inn remain close at hand. It’s a combination that allows groups to be together without feeling on display or organised.
